Along with art, food, and wine, PIF believes that participation in sports can be an important way to level the differences among cultures. In that spirit, PIF sponsors a number of PIF-related activities Aiken runners have twice participated in Orvieto’s eleven-kilometer marathon through the city streets, the Maratona di San Giuseppe to croquet and harness racing. Participants in PIF’s student exchange to Italy often have the opportunity to take part in internationally popular games such as soccer.

.CALLING ALL BOCCE PLAYERS:
BOCCE MAKES ITS DEBUT IN AIKEN

In Italy (and now in many parts of America), nothing says sports like bocce. This game, in which players toss balls on a surfaced court to try to get them closest to a target ball, is an important part of Italian daily life. And now Partners in Friendship is bringing it to Aiken.

We expect to have at least one bocce court available for play in 2006. So start practicing your run-ups and volo shots, and stay tuned for further information!
