One of PIF’s core values is that qualified students should be able to participate in its international student exchange program, regardless of means. PIF therefore provides scholarships – typically three a year – for students who meet the eligibility requirements but whose families would not otherwise be able to send them overseas. The scholarships are funded through donations to PIF’s wine campaign, which begins each autumn.

PIF is extremely proud of its scholarship winners, as it is of all its student exchange participants. The winners in 2005 – all impressive students and fine ambassadors for PIF and for their schools -- were Aiken High’s Casey Stanberry, Williston-Elko’s Megan Boyleston, and (from Silver Bluff High) top scholarship recipient Marisol Slater.

A WINNING COMBINATION:
PIF’S 2005-2006 POLO WINE FUNDRAISER

Each year Partners in Friendship offers specially-selected and uniquely-labeled wines to the public to raise funds for its student scholarship program. This year’s campaign brings together three of the things Aiken and Orvieto share: a love of fine wines, a love of fine art, and a love of horses.

The two highly-rated Italian wines being offered – both available now – are the Ti Amo Pinot Grigio (white) and the Falesco Rosso Vitiano (red). The latter is from the Umbria region, which includes Orvieto.

Both wines sport beautiful, specially-designed labels featuring the polo action photography of Aiken’s Shelly Schmidt. The labels honor Aiken’s recent role as host of the USPA Gold Cup.

The wines are available to PIF members for a donation of $14/bottle or $160/case, or to non-members for $15/bottle or $180/case, at two locations: Palmetto Package Shop, (230 Park Avenue, SW); and Material Things, Centre South Shopping Center.
