Partners in Friendship (PIF) is a non-profit, Aiken-based organization dedicated to promoting international understanding and cultural appreciation. It offers Aiken citizens an opportunity to learn about, and establish connections with, residents of other parts of the globe. Since its founding in 1996, PIF has established partnerships in Italy and Australia. It now serves as the official link between Aiken and Aiken’s Italian partner city, Orvieto.

WHAT DOES PIF DO?

Partners in Friendship is both a social organization, and one with a serious purpose. On the social side, it celebrates Aiken’s special relationship with Orvieto and Italy by bringing together Aikenites from many walks of life who share an interest in learning more about Italian life and culture. It hosts a variety of events and activities, from Italian wine-tasting parties to classes on Italian language and cooking.

But Partners in Friendship does much more than that. As Aiken’s “ambassador” to other cultures, PIF is constantly opening new avenues of international networking and communication. For example, in recent years PIF has partnered with the city of Orvieto to sponsor:

• student exchanges
• exchanges of art and artists
• teacher exchanges
• participation in sports events
• culinary events
• commercial contacts

PIF is always seeking to expand the opportunities for Aiken residents to broaden their horizons and their appreciation of cultures other than our own.
